CATECHESIS IN A MISSIONARY GOING FORTH

'Missio' means to be sent.  As disciples, we are called to "go forth" and share the Good News.  Missionary disciples need to be equipped with the right knowledge and tools to empower.  "Catechesis forms the believers for mission, accompanying them in the maturation of attitudes of faith and making them aware that they are missionary disciples, called to participate actively in the proclamation of the Gospel and to make the Kingdom of God present in the world" (DC #49)
VOCATION OF THE CATECHIST

The catechist is a Christian who receives a particular calling from God that, when accepted in faith, empowers him for the service of the transmission of faith and for the task of initiating others into the Christian  life. Through this calling, the catechist is made a participant in Jesus' mission of introducing disciples into his filial relationship with the Father.   By virtue of faith and baptismal annointing, in collaboration with the Magisterium of Christ and as a servant of the action of the Holy Spirit, a catechist is:
1. A Witness of Faith and Keeper of the Memory of God
2. A Teacher and Mystagogue
3. An Accompanier and educator
                  - (DC #110 - 113)

EQUIPPING FOR MISSION
To be effective in this work, the catechist must understand, love, live and proclaim the Christian message with conviction and enthusiasm. The proclamation of this message by the catechist in the context of the parish community leads the faithful to a deepening of faith, a greater participation in worship and a more dedicated Christian service.  Catechist formation provides the foundation for the tasks of catechesis to be carried out effectively.
OUR OFFICE... provides Essential Catechist Formation with the three components of formation, spiritual, doctrinal and pedagogical.  These components will address how a catechist can witness, teach and accompany others towards missionary discipleship.  We also accompany parish catechetical leaders as they continue with ongoing formation.  Our staff will work with catechists and catechetical leaders to personalize their needs in formation.
